Skateboarding is pretty huge in the major Spanish cities, with Barcelona described as the ‘Mecca of Skateboarding’ thanks to the amazing terrain around the city that’s perfect for skaters. It’s a flourishing culture in the Iberian peninsula and means that Spain is a great destination for skaters who want to travel and experience skating in different spots.

Lovers of skating and long boarding are pretty well catered for in Tenerife. In fact, people who are into extreme sports and alternative sports in general should find plenty of places where they can indulge their hobbies.

For example, it’s well known that the coast of Tenerife is excellent for surfing with plenty of beaches attracting expert surfers from all over the world to take advantage of high waves and good surf. There are also hills and forests that attract holiday makers who love to hike, run and cycle in interesting terrain. And, of course, there are plenty of water-sports on offer with the Mediterranean giving the chance to go diving, swimming and snorkeling.

But on top of all this, there are plenty of skate parks and well known skating spots for those who want to try out their tricks, meet other skating types to hang out with and just generally while away their holiday doing what they do best – this makes it perfect if you’re off on holiday as a family and have kids in tow who like nothing better than finding friends who’re into the same things they are and skating their time away.

The south side of the island is best for skate parks, with Playa de las Américas, El Medano and Punta del Hidalgo catering for skaters. A good place to stay that’s not too far from any of these skating parks is the reasonably priced and pretty cool Paradise Park. It’s a really chilled out resort with excellent customer care and is great for families, so if you have some skating enthusiasts going on your family holiday you know that they can go and entertain themselves pretty easily, while you sit back, relax and get waited on hand and foot!

Accommodation ranges from rooms to duplex apartments for couples and families and is situated about 15km away from South Tenerife airport and near the fishing village of Los Cristianos. The beaches at Playa las Vistas are just over 1km away and there are shuttle buses from the resort to the villages.

There’s also a pretty new sports centre at Playa Paraiso, which is nearby, which has a custom built skate park, which was opened in 2011 in response to demand from local residents for somewhere for young people to go. The facilities are spread over a plot of 3,182 square metres and are an excellent place to hang out for skaters and anyone else who wants to hang out and play any kinds of sports.
