21 Feb Introducing Skateability ™ (Press Release)
This month Team Rubicon launched Skateability ™ – a skateboard training scheme available nationwide.
Following in the success of the Bikeability scheme which has been administered by the Department of Transport for 11 years, Team Rubicon recognises the growing popularity of skateboarding and will be providing coaching to tens of thousands of boys and girls each year through schools, councils and other organisations.
The programme has been designed as an introduction to skateboarding and to improve the safety of young people as they learn. There are three Skateability levels which aim to support the rider and give them confidence as they progress from learning the basic balance, turning and pushing skills through to using their skateboard in public spaces like skateparks.
Senior instructor Liam McKee said “with skateboarding included in the 2020 Olympics for the first time and with an ever-growing number of quality skateparks being built, we are excited to deliver our Skateability scheme across the country and to encourage new children to try the sport and progress with it further.”
Professional instructors will travel to whoever wants to learn and bring all the equipment needed. DBS checked and fully insured, each session usually lasts around an hour and can cater for up to 30 children. Classes will receive a group certificate and schools can receive a digital badge to share online.
“Of course, skateboarding is a great way to encourage healthy active lifestyles which is important to the physical development of children, but it also has loads of positive benefits towards mental development too – and above all skateboarding is fun!” said instructor Sam Young.
Indeed praise for Team Rubicon’s skateboard coaching has been coming in fast and regular with Bodsham School in Kent saying:
“What a fantastic morning the children at Bodsham School had with you yesterday! They absolutely loved all the challenges that you set them and couldn’t believe that skateboarding could be part of the school curriculum! You were patient and kindly, encouraging them every step of the way. We really appreciated your time with us and do hope that you will be able to visit us again one day.”
St Catherines School in Surrey saying:
“An amazing day! The children came back to class animated and there was a definite buzz about skateboarding from both boys and girls. The adults enjoyed the difference of the activity and the obvious exhilaration the children experienced. Thank you again for your time and the lovely rapport you developed with the children.”
And finally Rucstall School in Hampshire said:
“The children loved the lessons, they were all kitted out properly with safety gear and the instructor explained the importance of this. The sessions really supported/extended children where appropriate and he was really supportive with the children who were nervous.”
Skateability Co-ordinator Geoff Else said “Over 150,000 children have already received skateboard coaching from us in the last decade and the launch of the Skateability scheme highlights our commitment to helping the sport grow further at this exciting time.
